King of App

Do you want to know if you are being spied on?

The million dollar question. To know or not to know. In reality we are permanently spied. However, curiosity is tempting. But it is not a question of curiosity, but of security. And that is why Amnesty International has developed an App to find out if a country, a government, or an investigative agency is spying on you.

The App that surely few governments will want you to install is called Detect i is a free and open source program that scans devices for tracking software, also known as spyware. Detekt has been developed by German security researcher Claudio Guarnieri, and was launched yesterday by Amnesty International in collaboration with civil rights and consumer protection organizations Digital Society (Germany), Electronic Frontier Foundation (United States) and Privacy International (United Kingdom).

For the moment, according to what we could read on the portal CNET, only tracks Windows-equipped devices and is able to detect the most common programs used to track journalists and political activists around the world. Among the most well-known spy programs is FinSpy, developed in Germany and whose main mission is to control emails as well as conversations held by Skype or extract documents from the hard drive. A real intrusion into our privacy.

Amnesty International recommends that, whether Detekt detects any spyware or if we have the slightest suspicion that we might be under surveillance, we disconnect the device from the internet and seek expert help.
